Meta launches Meta verification program in the US

The age of the subscription social media service is here. Twitter might have seemed like a blip that wouldn’t catch on, but apparently, Meta disagrees. The Meta verification subscription has finally launched in the US.

The good news is that it appears to actually offer a verification process, unlike Twitter’s attempt, that will ensure you are you and you are running your account – including a photo ID necessary. So there will be no Eli Lilly shenanigans here.

Along with verification, the Meta subscription gets you

  • A verification tick on Facebook or IG
  • Proactive account protection from impersonation
  • Dedicated account support from Meta’s team
  • Exclusive stickers for Facebook and Instagram Stories and Facebook Reels
  • 100 Stars a month to allocate to other creators on Facebook

However, you need to sign up to Instagram and Meta’s subscriptions separately in order to gain verification for each platform. This isn’t a “one blue tick for all” situation.

Social Media Today isn’t impressed with the concept, saying: “The biggest query about the Meta Verified program, along with Twitter’s Blue subscription package, is that once you start selling the blue checkmark, it immediately loses the only thing that makes it valuable, in exclusivity, and that element is then further diluted with every person who signs up to the program.”
