Meta expands branded reels into Facebook

Meta has apparently decided that its branded reels, as tested on Instagram in 2020, have built enough traction to launch on Facebook.

Branded reels allow you to make short-form video content with a link attached to the items or business you are promoting. With a Branded Content Tag business partners will be notified of your post and you will gain metrics about the performance of your post. And, if there is any influence on creators’ and influencers’ content, the brand link must be added to the content as per Facebook’s promotional guidelines.

As explained by Meta: “Reels is one of the fastest growing new formats on Facebook, and now, creators can use this format with the Branded Content tag tool on Facebook Reels in their organic posts, and tagged brands can easily convert these Reels to Branded Content Ads (‘Sponsored with’ label).”

It’s pointing out the obvious to say that this is a boost to creators on the Facebook platform, however, as you might wonder yourself, how many creators on Facebook are creators? Even if that number is low, it’s fair to say that there are enough brands that will take advantage of the feature, but is the affiliate ecosystem sustainable on a platform with few influencers?
