Amazon to cull another 9,000 jobs

Following the recent staff cuts across the tech industry, Amazon is once again reducing its employees. This problem of staff cuts has been raging for the past six months and has affected tech giants such as Google, Twitter, Meta, and even Amazon itself once before.

In January, Amazon cut 18,000 jobs. This latest round of cuts is said to be in the range of 9,000 but it is not said what countries or positions will be affected.

Amazon boss Andy Jassy said it was a “difficult decision” but it would be best for the company in the long term.

“However, given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount,” he continued. “To those ultimately impacted by these reductions, I want to thank you for the work you have done on behalf of customers and the company.”

It is safe to assume that the eCommerce monopoly is feeling the effects of a post-Covid world. Like a lot of other tech businesses, including Meta, Google and TikTok, there was a boom that resulted in the companies onboarding a lot of new staff and expanding their business. As that boom has petered out, a lot of tech businesses are looking for ways to save money.
