TikTok is reportedly testing a paid membership program for TikTok Shop as the platform looks to turn product discovery into more completed and repeat purchases inside its own app. The service, called TikTok Shop Plus, is being shown to selected shoppers in the United States with benefits including free shipping, product discounts, and coupons. TikTok has not publicly announced the program or confirmed whether it will receive a wider rollout.
Business Insider reported that TikTok is testing Shop Plus with some US users after reviewing screenshots of the offering.
In one example, a hair product priced at approximately $57 was reduced to $47 for Plus members and included free three-day shipping. Another offer gave members $5 off a beauty product priced at close to $50.
The screenshots showed TikTok testing monthly subscription prices of $6, $10, and $15. These appear to be separate pricing experiments rather than confirmed membership tiers. TikTok did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
The reported program follows a model already used by Amazon, Walmart, and other large ecommerce businesses, where shipping benefits and member-only discounts are designed to encourage customers to shop more frequently within the same marketplace.
TikTok Shop has been built around shortening the distance between product discovery and purchase. Creators can tag products in videos and livestreams, earn commission from attributed orders and allow viewers to complete a transaction without leaving the app.
As explained in our TikTok creator monetization guide, Shop Affiliate connects creator earnings to attributed and settled product orders rather than video views alone. However, a creator can still influence a purchase without receiving the final conversion. A shopper may discover a product through a TikTok video, compare prices elsewhere, and then complete the order through Amazon or another retailer.
Shop Plus could reduce that leakage by adding free or faster shipping, discounts, and other benefits at checkout. This may improve conversion rates on eligible products and increase the value of traffic generated by creators and affiliates. However, the impact on commissions is still unclear. TikTok has not confirmed who would fund the discounts, whether they would reduce commissionable order values, which products would qualify, or how later purchases by members would be attributed.
The membership test forms part of TikTok’s wider effort to develop the infrastructure surrounding social commerce. TikTok Shop already supports native checkout, commission-based creator partnerships, and Fulfilled by TikTok, which stores, packs, and ships products for participating merchants. These capabilities have expanded significantly since the platform formally launched TikTok Shop in the US in 2023.
Shop Plus is not TikTok’s only attempt to take greater control of the shopping journey. The platform is also reportedly preparing a managed-service pilot for selected US sellers, which would see it become more involved in advertising, product optimization, creator recruitment, and content production.
TikTok is also expanding the tools available for producing shoppable content, although the growth of AI-generated TikTok Shop videos has raised questions about product accuracy, brand control, and competition with human creators. Together, these developments suggest TikTok wants to influence more stages of the transaction, from the content that introduces a product to the logistics and incentives that help convert interest into a completed purchase.
TikTok Shop has proved capable of turning viral product interest into sudden bursts of sales. A paid membership would test whether the platform can also develop longer-term shopping habits and increase repeat purchases.
For affiliates, the important question is whether Shop Plus improves the conversion and repeat-purchase value of creator-led traffic without making attribution less transparent. Sellers will also need to understand how discounts, shipping subsidies, and membership eligibility affect margins and commission payments.
For now, Shop Plus remains a limited and unconfirmed test. The next signals to watch will be a public announcement from TikTok, final pricing, merchant eligibility, and any indication that the membership will expand beyond selected US shoppers.
