US operators collaborate to set responsible gambling standards

A number of online gambling operators in the US have joined forces to lead a push to define a set of responsible gambling standards intended to protect US gamblers from gambling-related harm.

The group has drawn up a 12-point paper that details recommended principles, in the hopes they will be adopted as the new industry standard for player protection.

A range of major industry figures are involved in the collaboration, including Bally’s, BetMGM, DraftKings, Entain, FanDuel, and MGM Resorts. They have committed to establishing a shared responsibility ethos in the industry and will seek input and advice from industry experts and treatment organisations.

The paper outlines measures needed to curb underage gambling, safeguard vulnerable players, and provide further information to educate and teach players about potential risks. Players will be given access to responsible gambling tools and services, including self-exclusion options and information on budgets and financial limits.

In addition, the operators have pledged to establish a fully integrated nationwide gambling helpline, as well as provide funding for responsible gambling research programmes and harm reduction initiatives.

“Responsible gaming is at the forefront of everything we do at BetMGM. While we operate in a highly competitive industry, we are proud to stand together with our colleagues to adopt these important principles,” said BetMGM Chief Legal Officer Joshua Jessen.
