The UK Gambling Commission’s latest market data points to a stronger March for Britain’s gambling sector, with online slots, real-event betting, and retail betting activity all rising after a softer February.

The figures, published in the Commission’s updated market dataset up to March 2026, are based on data from the largest gambling operators in Britain. According to the UKGC, those operators represent around 70% of the digital market, making the report a useful temperature check for wider market behavior.

Online Slots Recovered After February Dip

Online slots remained one of the clearest indicators of sustained digital activity. Active slot accounts stood at 4.78 million in January 2026, before dipping to 4.66 million in February.

By March, the number had climbed to 4.97 million, making it the strongest month of the quarter for slot account activity.A similar pattern appeared in spin volumes. Total slot spins reached 8.48 billion in January, fell to 7.85 billion in February, and then rose to 8.73 billion in March. That recovery suggests February’s decline may have been more of a short-term correction than a sign of weakening online casino engagement.

Sports Betting Activity Saw the Sharpest Jump

Sports betting activity saw the sharpest month-on-month increase. Real-event betting active accounts moved from 5.29 million in January to 5 million in February, before rising to 6.22 million in March.

The March rebound was likely supported by major spring sports betting events, giving licensed operators a stronger engagement window after February’s slowdown.For affiliates and media buyers, the data reinforces a familiar seasonal lesson: betting demand can shift quickly around sporting calendars. March’s increase in active betting accounts suggests that campaign planning around major sports periods still matters, especially for publishers and partners covering regulated UK betting audiences.

Longer Slot Sessions Remain a Compliance Signal

The UKGC data also highlights safer gambling indicators around slot sessions. Average online slot session length remained steady at 15 minutes across January, February and March.

However, the number of sessions lasting more than one hour increased from 2.83 million in February to 3.12 million in March. Total slot sessions also rose to 71.1 million in March, up from 63.6 million in February.

For operators, this keeps player monitoring, session controls and safer gambling interventions high on the agenda. For affiliates, it is another reminder that UK gambling content needs to stay aligned with regulated-market expectations, not just conversion goals.

Retail Betting Also Strengthened in March

Retail betting followed the same broad recovery pattern. Over-the-counter bets and spins in licensed betting offices reached 41.7 million in January, declined to 38.8 million in February, and then increased to 44.8 million in March.

This shows that retail betting demand also strengthened toward the end of the quarter, even as digital channels continue to dominate market discussion.

What the Data Means for Affiliates and Operators

The bigger takeaway is not simply that gambling activity rose in March. The data shows how quickly regulated-market engagement can shift across sports calendars, online casino activity and retail betting behavior.

For affiliates, that means seasonal content planning, event-led betting coverage and market timing remain important. For operators, March’s rebound points to continued demand but also reinforces the need for strong compliance controls around high-volume periods.

The Commission also cautioned that this quarterly dataset should not be directly combined with its wider annual Industry Statistics package. The quarterly figures use a different methodology and account for factors such as free bets, bonuses and sampling weights.
