Trained Associate Model

Trained Associate Model launched by GamCare

Gambling support charity GamCare has launched an expansion of their problem gambling treatment programme called the “Trained Associate Model”. It is designed to act as a framework for organisations beyond the UK to receive Gamcare’s training.

This is related to the Model of Care designed by GamCare, combining a clinical framework for treatment and the tools needed to support problem gambling treatment.

The first charitable organisation to receive support from the Trained Associate Model will be Motiv8, a group based on the Isle of Man that covers many services including problem gambling and alcohol and drug abuse.

The CEO of Motiv8, Thea Ozenturk, said: “We are delighted to move to this new relationship with GamCare as it keeps Motiv8’s team at the forefront of delivering best practice interventions in the treatment of gambling disorder for the benefit of locally affected individuals and their families.”

GamCare has outlined that this new model is available to any organisation outside the GB area which operates support services such as health and substance misuse or mental health treatment. To become an associate of the program, applications will have to be approved by GamCare and complete a due diligence exercise.

This is to ensure that the organisation has the right clinical skills and authority to offer support to those who may struggle with problem gambling. Charities will remain independent from GamCare once they have completed training.
