Pinterest wades into marketing with new tool launch

The, perhaps previously overlooked, social media platform, Pinterest, has recently made its mark on the market by releasing two new ad products designed to aid brands, including extensions on Idea Pins and a creator fund.

The Stories-eqsue concept of the “Idea Pins” has been expanded to create Idea Ads, which, like the Idea Pins offer full-screen multi-page presentations, not unlike Instagram’s Stories, but with now the inclusion of custom links.

As Pinterest itself says, “Audiences can view a brand’s inspiring content, visit their site and follow step-by-step DIYs or demos, all within the ad.”

There is also the launch of Paid Partnership. This is a tagging process that will be particularly useful to affiliate marketers. It offers creators on Pinterest a chance to make a living from their content on Pinterest.

As explained by Pinterest: “Tag brand partners in your Idea Pins with the paid partnership tool. Just make an Idea Pin in the app, add the paid partnership label, and tag your partner brand. Once they approve the request, their brand name will appear on your Idea Pin. Brands can also choose to promote your Idea Pins as ads—expanding your reach to even more people.”

“When you use the paid partnership tool, you work directly with the brand to define the payment terms and process. Pinterest will not be directly involved in payment.”
