Kenyan sports betting market entry for Betsson

Gaming operator Betsson is moving into the Kenyan sports betting market with its Betsafe brand. This will be operated by a Kenyan company Bet High.

Bet High is currently preparing to enter a joint venture agreement with the Betsson Group, and they are licensed by the Betting Control and Licensing Board.

The new Betsafe system will allow players to make wagers in a variety of ways. They will be able to place bets through the website or SMS messaging, and there are already plans to add in new functions using the Telegram instant messaging service.

The venture will also create jobs within the Kenyan markets. The aim is to employ at least 150 people locally across the next two years.

On top of this, the operator wants to ensure that the regulator’s objectives for responsible gambling are upheld, and that local football talent can be developed and nurtured.

Alex Kobia, BetHigh’s acting managing director said: “Our Responsible gaming program is unlike any other in this market with the safety of the Kenyan sports betting fans in mind. Our online site contains unique control and safety features directly on the site.

“Our communication will initially be focused on responsible gaming messages and we will furthermore support Gamehelp, an organisation that supports Kenyans with gaming problem behaviour. We are also the first gaming company to hire a Responsible Gaming Officer who will be dedicated to pursue and improve us in this area.”
