Is Twitter dead or alive? How can you use it to drive traffic to your site?

Twitter is one of the biggest social media platforms, and every affiliate business should be present on it. However, you need to consider how you are using this platform, especially when it comes to driving traffic to your site.

Is Twitter alive or dead?

While Twitter is an incredibly popular platform, its rate of growth has declined over the past few years. In addition to this, there have been several purges to get rid of bots and disused accounts that has made the overall number of accounts on the platform drop a few times.

Nevertheless, Twitter is definitely still alive. It has a predicted audience of 353 million people, with 187 million of those being described as “monetizable daily active users” by the platform itself. The userbase is also considered to continue to grow over the next few years. This is a massive market that affiliate marketers cannot afford to miss. Though it might seem like the quantity of users and tweets are decreasing, the quality of user and tweet is on the rise.

So, how can you use it to drive traffic to your affiliate site?

Keep a Tweet pinned

There are several tips and tricks that you can use to help drive traffic to your site. One of the first steps you should take is to pin a Tweet to the top of your profile. This means that when a user clicks on your profile for a browse, this pinned Tweet will be the first that they see.

You can choose from any of your Tweets to pin, but it is often recommended that your pinned Tweet has a link to a page that will be able to push a high conversion for you. A sign-up page, a brilliant offer, or a high-quality think-piece on your site might all be fantastic options to link to in your pinned Tweet.

Know when to share

As with many other social media platforms, there is a good time to share content, and times where engagement might not be quite so good. By taking a look at some of the best times to post, you could work out when you are going to be able to appeal to the most people at once.

Remember that content on Twitter moves incredibly fast, and there is no guarantee that someone might see your post when you put it up. Some of the most popular times to post are in the mid-morning, but this might not be right for your brand. Set up some scheduled posts at different points of the week and monitor their engagement to try to track down the right times for you to post for your brand.

Use relevant hashtags for your brand

No one wants to see a ton of links or hashtags in a Tweet. Tracking down some relevant and interesting hashtags is a tried and tested way for you to increase the visibility of your tweets and push for conversions and traffic to your site.

Whenever you publish a Tweet with a link, make sure it also includes a few relevant hashtags. This will help to boost the engagement on the post.

Twitter is not dead, but you do need to make sure that you are using it properly! Make sure you optimise your feed and posts for your market now!
