TikTok Shop says LIVE broadcasts have generated 94% of its US luxury resale revenue so far this year. The platform’s figure suggests livestreaming is not simply helping shoppers discover pre-owned luxury goods. It is becoming the point at which sellers and hosts provide the reassurance needed to complete an expensive purchase.

The results also support earlier evidence that TikTok Shop affiliates are moving beyond impulse purchases and into categories where buyers require more information before converting.

Key Takeaways From TikTok Shop’s Luxury Resale Growth

  • TikTok says 94% of its US luxury resale revenue year to date has come through LIVE.
  • Luxury resale gross merchandise value on TikTok Shop reportedly increased 400% year over year.
  • Livestreams let shoppers inspect an item and ask about its condition before buying.
  • TikTok Shop creators can earn commission from products featured in videos and LIVE broadcasts.
  • Affiliate teams may need to measure hosts as content partners, salespeople and conversion partners.

Why LIVE Matters for Luxury Resale

Luxury resale presents challenges that an ordinary product page cannot always resolve. Shoppers may want to inspect scratches, discoloration and dimensions or see how an item looks when worn before spending thousands of dollars on it.

According to Modern Retail, TikTok revealed the 94% figure at its inaugural Luxury Resale Summit in New York. The company also reported a 400% year-over-year increase in luxury resale GMV. Both figures were supplied by TikTok and have not been independently audited.

Rainee Walker, TikTok Shop’s US head of category for luxury resale, explained why direct interaction matters for expensive secondhand products. During a New York Fashion Week presentation, Walker said:

To convey trust, there needs to be a conversation.

LIVE gives shoppers a way to ask sellers about details such as an item’s color, strap length and signs of wear. A host can respond by showing the product from another angle or demonstrating how it fits.

That interaction turns a static listing into a guided sales experience. The host is not only attracting attention but also answering questions, addressing concerns and explaining why the item has been priced at a particular level.

TikTok Shop also applies additional controls to the category. Luxury resale is invitation-only, while sellers must work with one of five authentication partners: Entrupy, Legitmark, CheckCheck, Legit App or Real Authentication.

Resale Businesses Build Around Livestreaming

Some luxury resale businesses are already making LIVE a regular part of their sales operations.

Fashionphile runs several TikTok livestreams each day through its Fashionphile TV format. TikTok Shop now accounts for slightly more than 25% of the company’s UK business, according to Modern Retail.

Rebag also uses TikTok to present items directly to shoppers. Its founder and CEO, Andrew Brown, said TikTok and other livestream channels combined generate approximately 15% to 20% of the company’s revenue. That figure covers multiple live-shopping channels rather than TikTok alone.

These examples show why livestreaming can be commercially useful for products where condition and authenticity affect the purchasing decision. Regular broadcasts can also create repeat audiences whose members recognize the hosts, interact with one another and return for future items.

Where Creator Commerce Meets Affiliate Marketing

TikTok’s official creator program allows eligible creators to earn commission by featuring products in shoppable videos and LIVE streams. However, not every livestream host is necessarily an affiliate. Sellers may use employees, dedicated presenters or creators working under different payment arrangements.

The TikTok creator monetization guide explains how Shop Affiliate commission differs from Creator Rewards and direct brand-deal payments.

This creates an overlap between content creation, audience access and sales. A host may be producing the content, presenting the product and helping convert the viewer during the same broadcast.

What LIVE Changes for Affiliate Measurement

Livestream commerce creates an attribution challenge when one creator introduces a product, another host closes the sale, or the shopper eventually buys elsewhere. Last-click reporting may capture the final action while missing the person who generated the initial interest.

This issue extends across platforms. TikTok content may create demand before the purchase takes place through Amazon or another retailer, contributing to a wider TikTok Shop attribution gap.

Affiliate teams may therefore need to compare host-level revenue with assisted conversions, repeat customers, returns and cancellations. Fixed creator fees combined with performance commission may also reflect the host’s contribution more accurately.

TikTok’s luxury resale results suggest livestream hosts can influence several stages of a considered purchase—a model that could extend to other categories requiring demonstrations, detailed explanations or proof of authenticity.
