Meta announced on September 22, 2025, the launch of two new artificial intelligence-powered features for Facebook Dating: a Dating Assistant and “Meet Cute” automated matching. The updates come as the platform reports significant growth in user engagement among younger demographics.

New AI Features Target Dating App Fatigue

The Dating Assistant functions as a chat assistant within Facebook Dating, providing personalised matchmaking support. According to Meta's announcement, the tool helps users “find better matches based on their interests and preferences, giving you refined search and custom match recommendations.”

The assistant allows users to input natural language prompts such as “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech” to generate tailored match suggestions. Beyond matchmaking, the tool provides dating ideas and profile optimisation recommendations.

The second feature, Meet Cute, delivers weekly surprise matches selected through Meta's “personalised matching algorithm.” The feature aims to address what the company describes as “swipe fatigue” by automatically connecting users without requiring manual browsing.

Facebook Dating Reports Growing Engagement Among Young Users

Meta disclosed that hundreds of thousands of young adults aged 18-29 in the United States and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles each month. The platform has recorded a 10% year-over-year increase in matches among this demographic.

According to reporting by Axios, daily conversations on Facebook Dating among users aged 18 to 29 increased 24% in the previous year. These figures indicate sustained growth for the platform, which Meta launched in 2019.

Gradual Rollout Planned for North American Markets

The Dating Assistant will roll out gradually across the United States and Canada, accessible through the Matches tab within Facebook Dating. Meet Cute will initially provide one surprise match per week, though Meta indicated it is exploring more frequent matching options.

Users can opt out of the Meet Cute feature at any time. The dating assistant feature represents Meta's first integration of conversational AI directly into its dating service.

Implications for Digital Marketing and Affiliate Programs

The growth metrics suggest Facebook Dating is gaining traction in a competitive market dominated by established players. Tinder attracts approximately 50 million daily active users, while Hinge draws 10 million daily active users, according to TechCrunch reporting.

For affiliate marketers, Facebook Dating's growth trajectory could impact commission opportunities in dating app verticals. The platform's expansion may also create new opportunities for relationship-focused affiliate content and products.

The integration of AI-powered personalisation tools reflects broader industry trends toward automated matchmaking and enhanced user experience features. Match Group, which owns Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, entered a partnership with OpenAI in 2024 as part of a $20 million investment in AI technology.

Platform Competition in the Dating App Market

Meta's AI features arrive as the online dating industry faces challenges. Bumble laid off 240 employees (30% of its workforce) in June 2025 due to slowed growth, while Match Group reduced its workforce by approximately 300 employees (13%) earlier in 2025.

The introduction of AI-powered features represents Meta's strategy to differentiate Facebook Dating from competitors and attract users experiencing “swipe fatigue” with traditional dating app interfaces.

Facebook Dating operates as a free service within the main Facebook application, utilising user data from Facebook and Instagram to generate match recommendations. The platform's integration with Meta's broader ecosystem provides access to extensive user behavioural data for matching algorithms.
