5 habits of highly effective affiliates

As affiliate industry professionals, you need to make sure that you are creating outstanding content that is going to make your affiliate site stand out in this very competitive industry. To do this, it’s important that you make sure you develop good habits along the way.

Stay up to date

The affiliate industry is constantly changing and so we need to make sure that we are always reading up on any news that we can. If you don’t know what is happening with operators you promote, you aren’t going to create unique and newsworthy content. Talk to other affiliates, and your affiliate manager. Read industry magazines and news sites and make sure that you are staying on top of the information that is readily available to you.  Build a good relationship with your operators so you always stay in the know and are up to speed with what’s going on.  

Keep content pupated regularly

The best way to develop your skills as an affiliate is to keep learning – ALL the time. Daily content additions is a must if you are chasing SEO ranking. Understanding the data of your competitors will lead you to understand what information architecture is working to help you rank better. You need to be creating content on a regular basis to keep people interested. As we write more about our own industries, we learn a little more each time and so will be able to create better content. 

Establish your own tone of voice

Do you realise just how many other affiliate portals there are out there right now? For this reason, you need to make sure that you all have our own voice in every single piece of content that you write. It’s a good idea to take some time to establish what you want to sound like to your clients and show off your industry knowledge in a tone of voice that helps you stand out.

Understand your KPIs

Optimisation is key in affiliate marketing and so this is why you need to understand your KPIs as much as you can. Without clear KPIs your affiliate portal is a mystery – you need to know what you are measuring. Get into the habit of understanding your own KPIs such as your organic traffic, social media traffic and make your content deliver better revenue results.

Network and attend a variety of events

The final habit is based on value driven networking. There are industry events happening all of the time but you can’t attend them all. Look at the agenda and look at the exhibitors and then make a choice on where you spend your time based on the value you will get in attending the event. Some are more social and others you will get a mix of both. Keeping ahead of trends is just as important as networking. So pick wisely. The more people you know and knowledge that you have – the better your content will be. Use every opportunity that you have to network, take advantage of mutual connections and you should find that your business will benefit over time.
