New Jersey DGE sanctions VegasInsider for offshore sportsbook promotions

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) has issued a warning to sports gaming information site VegasInsider after it was found to be promoting BetOnline.ag, an offshore unregulated sportsbook.

Following the receipt of an official notice from the NJDGE, Vegas Insider was warmed that it must immediately disassociate itself with unregulated sportsbooks, or be faced with civil or criminal penalties.

In a letter to Vegasinsider owner and president, Mark Mariani, Deputy Attorney General Anthony Strangia wrote: “Illegal sites that accept wagers from players in the United States pose a significant threat to the regulation of lawful gaming.”

The warning issued to Vegasinsider is the most recent bid by New Jersey officials to clamp down on the unregulated market. Since the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), New Jersey officials have spearheaded the campaign in developing gaming regulations.

The NJDGE has already issued a ban to OddsShark.com for the promotion of unlicensed sportsbooks, while the regulator has also taken action against LatestCasinoBonuses (also known as LCB) for a similar offshore sportsbook promotion earlier this year.

The news highlights the importance of affiliate compliance in promoting odds across New Jersey, as the regulator continues to maintain its stance against unlicensed operators.
